There is no injury retired military physical therapist Jeff Frankart fears treating. In his time serving his country as the Chief of Chronic Pain Physical Therapy in Landstuhl, Germany, Frankart developed a physical therapy regimen to rehabilitate injured soldiers and ween them off opioids. The wide array of injuries Frankart treated involved soldiers in HALO jump accidents, hit by improvised explosive devices (IEDs), soldiers with bilateral amputations, spinal fusions, arthritis, and many other critical injuries. Due to severe pain and injury, some soldiers believed they would never recover. Daily activities such as walking, running, spending time with loved ones, or even partaking in hobbies were merely a dream. But after going through Jeff’s therapy program, those dreams became realities, even exceeding expectations of what some thought would be their new normal. After completing the treatment program, soldiers could return to daily activities, exercise regularly, and even play pick-up basketball games.

Now retired from the military, Frankart feels the need to continue serving his country. He and his wife Carla opened a physical therapy clinic, called, The FIX, in Jupiter, Fl, for the public. The new clinic follows the same unique routine used on soldiers in a way structured and proven safe for patients of all ages.

This active, drug-free, functional physical therapy program prioritizes combatting chronic pain for all who suffer. The FIX focuses on the concept that movement is medicine, where the program uses continually challenging, bodyweight-based motions adaptable for any person and their injury. The functional, three-dimensional movements make a patient listen to his or her body to not push through pain, recalibrates the way a patient’s body interprets pain, and strengthens a patient’s body to ultimately show what he or she can achieve.

Many common issues associated with chronic pain, injury, or post-surgery involves the fear of movement. When someone experiences pain through an injury or post-surgery, most of the time “rest” comes highly recommended. With The FIX, “rest” only comes in the five-second breaths when a patient feels it necessary to stop. After five seconds, the patient returns to their exercises.

Not only does The FIX treat chronic pain, but research and testimonials show those who went through the program decreased opioid dependency and, in some cases, stopped taking opioids completely. On top of opioid reduction, some clients elected to avoid surgeries altogether.

Twice a week for six to twelve sessions, patients build their strength and reduce the need for medication after injury or surgery so they can return to the activities they enjoy.

The program begins with an initial evaluation with a certified physical therapist from The FIX who orchestrates 12 treatment sessions over a six to eight-week period. These sessions can be private or semiprivate, then vary to include small groups, depending on the patient’s needs. There is also a discharge assessment for ongoing treatment.

The program is suitable for all people experiencing chronic pain or recovering from injury and surgery. This includes patients of all ages and abilities, athletes, dancers, retired golf professionals, even pregnant women. If patients are willing to follow the program, they will learn how to FIX themselves.
